Unreal, keep this guy a star while he bashes John Lennons memory.
Oh. Still, the lengths to which Leto went for his latest role might seem just a tad extreme. To play John Lennon's assassin, Mark David Chapman, in J.P. Schaefer's new indie film, "Chapter 27," opening in limited release Friday, Leto packed 67 pounds onto his lanky frame to better approximate the killer's doughy physique. By the end of filming, the extra weight had taken such a toll that he could no longer walk to the set.

It's easily his most dramatic transformation to date.

"I'm not sure it was the wisest choice," he admits. "A friend of mine was recently going to gain weight for a film, and I did my best to talk him out of it. Just because you can lose the weight doesn't mean the impact it had on you isn't there anymore."

The abruptness of Leto's weight gain gave him gout and a doctor's recommendation to take Lipitor. But Leto says slipping into Chapman's skin was the best way to understand him. "The script didn't say, 'Page 1: You gain 67 pounds, and you're miserable for two months.' But as I started to research, I realized that the physical representation of this guy had so much to do with who he was."

Leto, who these days spends more time touring with his band, 30 Seconds to Mars, than he does on film sets, laces his answers with spontaneous condemnations of Chapman's homicidal fandom. But as an actor, he put such judgments aside. "As unfortunate as it can be to hear this, he was a human being," Leto says. "A failure of a human being. A very sick and disturbed individual. But when you're an actor playing a part, you don't play a monster. Or at least I don't know how to do that. You have to try to understand the human being there."

In addition to changing his body, Leto altered his voice to echo Chapman's eerily courtly Southern drawl. "He was very bottled up and you could hear it in his voice," Leto says. "Everything was closed off. He barely ever speaks above a whisper and everything is kind of choked off in the throat. He was, in the strangest way, a very polite, genteel kind of person, and he certainly thought of himself as a gentleman, which is so strange for someone committing such a horrifying and despicable act."

Leto relied on interviews with Chapman, who is serving a sentence of 20 years to life at Attica prison near Buffalo, N.Y., for reference, and on audiotapes recorded by an elderly librarian the actor met during a visit to Chapman's hometown of Decatur, Ga. "I pored over that for hours and hours," Leto says. "You can't find someone in this day and age who talks like this. It's kind of from another time."

Chapman had many obsessions, not just Lennon and the Beatles, but "The Catcher in the Rye" and "The Wizard of Oz," both stories of young people adrift in worlds they cannot comprehend. As Leto plays Chapman, he seems like a child not just in his timidity but in his explosive rages, to say nothing of his unhealthy attachment to a pop star. (The movie's title refers to Chapman's belief that he was carrying on the ideas laid down in J.D. Salinger's "Catcher." The book has 26 chapters.)

Next for Leto is Jaco van Dormael's "Mr. Nobody," a surrealistic time-travel odyssey in which Leto plays 12 versions of the same character, "including a 120-year-old man and a Neanderthal." Among those personae is a role that even Leto finds intimidating: a normal guy.

"I wasn't playing a drug addict or a psychopath, but one of the characters is married with kids," he says. "Playing a father was one of the more terrifying things that I've had to do on film."
Prepaid customers will make up about 10 percent of all iPhone 3G buyers once the device launches, according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. He believes those people are likely to be international subscribers who don't feel like tying themselves into contracts and service agreements (I'm sure we can all relate to that sentiment).

Because they won't be tying themselves into such commitments, however, they also won't be able to receive some of the heavy subsidies that carriers are now offering for the new device. Munster believes that prepaid subscribers will end up having to pay more than $600 per unsubsidized iPhone 3G, making that a threefold markup from the $199 purchase price here in the US (and only about $100 higher than the low-end iPhone's original purchase price when it launched a year ago).

Because of this, however, Munster predictably says that these customers won't exactly be in the majority—in fact, according to his notes seen by AppleInsider, Munster says they won't even make up a proportionate share of sales. The report was apparently issued as a response to "growing concerns" among investors that selling iPhones in markets where prepaid devices dominate would dilute the device's value.

This reviewer is possibly in love with Leto. Does he have any idea who Leto is portraying??

Just consider what John Lennon could have done if he were still alive??

Chapter 27 isn’t the type of widely focused study of a real life event and man that we usually get. It is, instead, a fascinating study of the inner workings of the mind of an obsessive fan and psychopath. The film tells the story of Mark David Chapman, and the three days leading up to the infamous killing of Beatle John Lennon.

Apart from Jared Leto’s utterly fascinating performance there isn’t much to Chapter 27. The whole film rests on Leto and that requires a considerably great performance, and I am happy to say Leto delivers. In a "Christian Bale in The Machinist"-type exercise, Leto has changed his weight considerably for the role, gaining over 60 pounds to not only play Chapman but to become him.

You’re either going to love and appreciate having to watch this man and his actions or you’re going to feel tortured by it. For Beatles fans this is going to be one tough film to watch, and perhaps one that will instill hatred for how plainly it displays the event that happens. But as someone who’s not a Beatles fan, I found the sense of realism and truth to it all the more interesting. However, as I said, this film isn’t really about John Lennon, or his untimely death, but the mind of his killer — how he ended up coming all the way from Hawaii to New York and the motives behind his actions. By the film’s end Leto's performance justified my having watched this messed-up guy for 80 minutes, if for no other reason than to get a sense of what it must have been like to be there on the day the killing took place.

I guess in my recommendation I am not really recommending the film itself, but rather Leto’s quite stunning performance. I find him a much underrated actor anyway and hopefully this will get his acting talent noticed by more people. The film certainly hasn’t been getting positive reviews from the majority, something which I can’t quite fathom. Maybe it was just my taking to the film and Leto’s performance that I can’t see past and that maybe most people just don’t see anything positive. I will chalk this up as one of the most underrated films of 2008.

It’s very interesting how first time writer/director J.P. Schaeffer goes about telling this man’s story; he chooses some very unorthodox techniques as far as when and how he shows the events. We know from the first few minutes of the film that Chapman has already killed Lennon and is in a mental hospital telling the story to “someone” and the identity of that someone is a nice little twist to the film. On day one of the three days we will see Chapman in a cab talking to the driver about where he came from and where he’s going and suddenly we will be flashed a few frames of Lennon’s body being taken away in an ambulance. The film acknowledges that we all know what happened on December 8, 1980 in New York City and thus it goes about telling the story accordingly.

Not unlike last year’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, the film portrays Chapman as half of what he was – an obsessive fan. The other half, which is unlike Jesse James, is he’s a killer and a psychopath. Both films have weaker, more obsessive characters than each of their celebrities and there’s a strange “must do it” mentality to them both. Even though they are their victims' “biggest fans” they ultimately are the undoing of them.

I am not quite sure that Chapter 27 has enough in it to sustain its 80 minute runtime. Although the film had me for a good hour of it I did feel, even at such a short length, that it dragged. However Leto is fascinating enough in the role and his performance is what ultimately makes the film thoroughly worthwhile.

'Chapter 27' offers zero insight into Lennon assassin

Jared Leto put on some 60 pounds to play John Lennon assassin MDC, a feat that some have likened to Robert De Niro's transformative weight gain for "Raging Bull."

Well, there's nothing raging about "Chapter 27."

The feature debut from writer-director Jarrett Schaefer is a lethargic, ponderous slog that feels much longer than its brief running time. Schaefer relies too heavily on voiceover to convey MDC's inner state, but he provides little insight.

We know MDC was obsessed with J.D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye" and even went so far as to believe he was the book's protagonist, Holden Caulfield. But over the three days in December 1980 when MDC stands outside the Dakota apartment building in New York, waiting for Lennon to emerge so he can shoot him, he thinks clunky, literal thoughts about the fact that - you guessed it! - he believes he's Holden and wants to kill John Lennon.

Leto does resemble MDC with his black hair, double chin and oversized glasses. Schaefer makes sure to have him loll about the hotel room several times in his tighty-whities to show off his jelly belly and his man boobs, the price this typically lean actor is willing to pay for his art. But mimicry alone isn't acting, and the raspy whisper-scream he uses for his interior monologues is annoyingly gimmicky - and it grates quickly.

Lindsay Lohan appears in a few scenes as a Lennon fan named - wait for it - Jude, who also stands outside the Dakota all day and inexplicably can't figure out that Chapman is one odd dude. It makes absolutely no sense that she would befriend this obviously off-putting person; aside from her Lennon obsession - which many fostered back then and some do still - she seems like a perky, sweet, well-adjusted young woman. (And since "Chapter 27" was filmed a couple years ago, long before Lohan's well-documented troubles with the law and substance abuse, it serves as a bittersweet snapshot of a simpler time for the magnetic young actress.)

Certainly, we know there's something seriously wrong with this guy. We know it before we even walk into the theatre. And the knowledge that he's going to empty a revolver into Lennon's back by the time the film's done should provide a palpable sense of tension from the very beginning. Think of the sensations of dread and fear the excellent "United 93" caused, for example.

Schaefer squanders that possibility completely with his languid pacing and simplistic script, which he based on Jack Jones' collection of interviews, "Let Me Take You Down: Inside the Mind of Mark David Chapman." (The film's title comes from "The Catcher in the Rye," which ended at chapter 26.)

"I'm going to tell you what happened to me right around last Christmas, those three days in New York City," Chapman narrates at the film's start. And later, as he's walking toward Lennon's home: "I went up to the Dakota, the strange building on the Upper West Side of Manhattan." Later still, to no one in particular: "I'm going to kill John Lennon."

You don't say!

Probably the most ironic (and cringe-inducing) statement of all comes as Chapman is railing against the movies: "I hate the movies. They're phoney." Right, except it's the unwatchable ones - such as "Chapter 27" - that draw attention to their phoniness.

There is one scene, though, that offers a bit of intrigue. The night before the murder, Chapman picks up the phone and orders a prostitute to come to his hotel room. He figures he wants a little female companionship, since it may be his last opportunity. He wants her to be exotic and he doesn't want her to talk - he'll pay her extra if she doesn't talk.

Once she arrives you wonder, what's going to happen? This person who is so socially maladjusted, how will he behave in this situation?

For a moment or two, it's almost enough to make you imagine a better movie.

One star out of four.

The long-delayed John Lennon assassination movie, Chapter 27, featuring former hook-up partners Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan is finally hitting US theaters on March 28th. Um, on limited screens.

The movie premiered at Sundance LAST January. It then went on to play on Russian TV and then straight to DVD in Finland and Greece.

Is there something wrong with it? Don't things usually come out on the big screen in the US before hitting TV and DVD internationally?

We smell a disaster!!!!

February 24th was George Harrison's birthday.He would have been 65 years of age if he were alive today.
George Harrison was born in 1943 on February 24th in Liverpool England.He was a friend of Paul McCartney.He and Paul also went to the same school together and George's father also drove the bus that took them to school every day.Both he and Paul,at least at the time,did not know John Lennon until many years later.
George,when he was younger,displayed a very solitary independent personality but he never got into trouble.Both George's parents didn't mind George's personality at all because he was a well behaved young man and always respected his elders.
While George was still young,George's father bought him a guitar and he started to learn it right away.It didn't come as fast as it did for his friend Paul,but he was patient and determined.He also asked Paul for advice on how to improve and Paul was glad to oblige.
Paul was the first to meet John Lennon at a Woolton church fete in 1958.Paul became one of The Quarrymen,John's Skiffle group at the time,when Paul showed John that he also could play guitar.Not too long after that,George asked if he too could join the band.John,of course,wasn't sure if George could play a vital role in the group due to his age.But when George showed how to tune a guitar properly for better sound,he was one of The Quarrymen in an instant.
The Quarrymen continued to play wherever they could get work and would always rehearse in different places to continue getting their sound right and their style.They would also commit themselves to disc recording a cover of Buddy Holly's That'll Be The Day b/w a song that Paul and George wrote called In Spite Of All The Danger. But as the 1950's waned,the craze for the Skiffle sound was also waning at the same time.The sounds of American Rock and Roll was flooding England at the time at a rapid pace.Pirated radio stations grew everywhere playing these songs from the USA.The change in music craze brought some changes in names to the band.They went from Johnny & The Moondogs to Long John & The Silver Beatles before finally settling on The Beatles in 1960.The vast majority of the Quarrymen drifted apart along with the name changes leaving John,Paul,George and Stuart Sutcliffe to reach for fame,which John felt was "Just Around The Corner!"
The Beatles aquired Allan Marshall as their first manager who in turn,supplied them with Pete Best,who would become their permanent drummer for only a while.Marshall sent them to Hamburg,Germany and they got a gig at the Kaiserkeller night club that was located in Hamburg's notorious Reeperbaun district.The Beatles played for 2 hours that night to a rousingly loud round of applause.This led to more gigs at another Reeperbaum night club called The Top Ten.
But trouble soon followed.When it was discovered that George Harrison was not 18 years of age,The Beatles were sent home by the German authorities.But a month later,they aquired a fake birth certificate to allow the band to continue to perform in the Hamburg clubs.It was during that return trip to Hamburg that they met fellow Englishmen Tony Sheridan who was a singer in his own right.He approached the Beatles and asked if they would like to be his backing group on an upcoming record.They enthusiastically accepted his offer.A few days later,the Beatles minus Stuart Sutcliffe,who sat it out because he had no interest in playing popular music,arrived at a German recording studio with Bert Kaemphert producing to record some songs.The songs My Bonnie and When The Saints Come Marching In were released as a single from those sessions and it was a huge seller.The rest of those songs appeared on many numerous records,including bootlegs,throughout the remainder of the 1960's and early 1970's.When that single was released,it was credited to Tony Sheridan & The Beat Brothers.The reason for this was because Beatles spoken in German was phrased as Peedles,which is German slang for the male sex organ,the penis.Tony Sheridan would continue to use the Beat Brothers name with numerous bands that he had as back-up for him throughout his career.After those sessions,The Beatles would return to Liverpool to work at the Cavern Club,which was owned by Pete Best's parents.Stuart Sutcliffe did not accompany them back to England.He decided to stay in Germany to paint and remain with Astrid Kircshner,his German girlfriend.The Beatles were performing theoir Lunch time gig at the Cavern when Brian Epstein,who walked in after hearing about them through a fan asking about the My Bonnie single,caught their act.Their musical ability and stage presence impressed him.He immediately offered to manage them.Along with this came an overnight change from tight leather suits to well tailored men's suits.He took photographs of them to show around to the labels.For nearly a year,every major record label in England rejected Brian Epstein.They also endured a failied Decca audition where the A&R man,Dick Rowe,told Brian Epstein that "Guitar Groups Are On The Way Out,Mr.Epstein".But Brian kept it up.During this time,the band went back to Hamburg for one more gig at the famous Star Club,where recordings of their performance were captured on tape and later released on record.It was there when they learned about the tragic death of Stuart.Undaunted,the band played the Star Club gig where future drummer Richard Starkey(a.k.a.Ringo Starr)would sit in for Pete Best that night due to Pete Best being sick.It was there when they got a wire from Brian congratulating them on the basis that EMI requested a recording session and to have new material ready.The band immediately went home to meet up with George Martin at Parlophone Records who asked to meet them after hearing their demo and seeing their pics.But before any real recordings would be made,Brian and George Martin felt that the band should change drummers because they felt that Pete Best wasn't a very good drummer.Pete was soon fired by Brain and Ringo became the bands permanent drummer.After the band signed to Parlophone,the rest was history and what a history it was.The Beatles set new records and became the "Greatest Rock & Roll Band Of All Time"who inspired and influenced countless other rock and rollers.
But bad feelings started setting in when their differences got in the way and they felt that they couldn't play together anymore.It started with the death of Brian Epstein and it got worse day after day.After the final Beatles album and film,entitled Let It Be,was released in 1970,the Beatles broke up forever.
George started his solo career in earnest after the break-up.After two failed pre-break-up solo efforts,George immediately went to work and released All Things Must Pass,which became the biggest album of his career and would also give him his first #1 album and single with My Sweet Lord.George would also organize the first concert for charity benefit called The Concert For Bangla Desh,which was also filmed as well as recorded and released as another successful record album.George continued to record and release successful solo album's and would also add film production to his resume,with one of his films winning a British Academy Award.He also had a very phenomonal comeback in 1987 when he hit #1 with Got My Mind Set On You and had another Top 10 album with Cloud Nine.George continued to make music and pursue spiritual interests until his death of cancer in 2001He even survived a fatal attack by a crazed fanatic who broke into his house and tried to stab him to death nearly three weeks after the anniversary of Lennon's murder.His last album,Brainwashed,was released nearly a year after his death and he was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame soon after.
Georeg Harrison continues to be missed by all of his fans and admireres.May he always Rest In Peace.He was truly great.

The bad Karma of Chapter 27 builds everyday. The stock of the films backers is now trading around $1.04, a far cry from the $3 a share, last year. Please join us in continuing the pressure on PAE and Boycott Chapter 27, not only on its theater release in March, but equally as important on the release of the DVD soon to follow.
I could use a bit of help over here. I'm trying to decide whether or not this is a joke. If it is, it's a poor one. If it's not, it's still fairly poor and I think terribly less of the film industry. Not that I had a very high opinion to begin with...The premise of this movie makes a travesty of the death of one of the most important figures in our century's history; it is the equivalent of a sympathetic biopic on Judas. I may not be able to stop it from being produced, but not only will I not see the film, I will encourage everyone I know not to see the film.

John is the legend, not his Killer. Remember love. Forget hate. And, to the opposers: "He already has the fame he wanted...So, continue with the film" etc. Ok, people have already died in Darfur.... Let's forget about them... it's too late. Peace is impossible. Let's forget about that, too. ... I wish I could post a few comments on the opposer's sites. All Lennon fans: Wear your "Give Peace A Chance" stuff on the release date. Throw Bed-Inns! Sit in front of theaters...Practice total communication! Show love to your fellow peers. This horrible man may have taken John, but he has yet to take his message!!! Peace lives in our hearts. Peace to you all in this tough time! Peace Peace Peace Peace. Forget the name of this film and man. Remember the message and the man. Spread it.

Do not release this movie! I HATE JARED LETO AND LINDSAY LOHAN for giving noteriety to the man who MURDERED that beautiful soul of a man, John Lennon. For every ad I see for this despicable movie, I will paint a poster and give it to a friend to picket your stupid studios. I can't believe you thought this was a good idea.

NASA will beam the Beatles’ “Across The Universe” to the star Polaris, 431 light years away (that’s 431 years travel at the speed of light before our all-time favorite Beatles song reaches the 2.5 quadrillion miles away star). This is being done to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the song, the 45th anniversary of NASA’s Deep Space Network, an international network of antennas that supports missions to explore the universe, and the 50th anniversary of NASA.

Across the Universe

NASA has invited people around the world to play “Across the Universe” on their audio systems at the same time NASA beams its mp3 version into outer space. The idea was hatched by Beatles’ historian Martin Lewis, who encourages all Beatles fans to play the track as it is being beamed to the distant star. Additionally, this date will be known as “Across the Universe Day”. The event marks the first time a radio song has been beamed into deep space.

An intergalactic celebration of The Beatles is launched on Monday with the beaming of their peace anthem "Across the Universe" into outer space.

The man behind the idea, which marks the 40th anniversary of the recording of the song in 1968, is an avid Beatles fan who has persuaded U.S. space agency NASA to kick off the party and now hopes to convert alien life forms to The Beatles.

"At the moment we are sending up Morse code as a way of contacting aliens," Martin Lewis told BBC radio. "Maybe we should send them something a little more cheery."

If all goes according to plan, NASA will transmit the Beatles tune via its deep space network at Midnight British time.

At exactly the same time, fans across the world are being asked to play "Across The Universe" in a bid to "create a harmonic convergence" around planet earth and throughout the universe.

According to a statement from NASA, the transmission will be aimed at the North Star, Polaris, which is 431 light years away from earth. The song will travel across the universe at a speed of 186,000 miles per second.

Former Beatle Paul McCartney, who beamed his first intergalactic concert to the International Space Station in 2005, congratulated NASA and asked them to pass on his regards to anyone else out there.

"Amazing! Well done, NASA!" he said in a statement released by the space agency. "Send my love to the aliens. All the best, Paul."

Fans can watch the event online via the Web site www.acrosstheuniverseday.com.

Chapter 27 as bad as it is wrong

Although the early reviews for Chapter 27 were pretty bad, they're nothing compared to some of the latest we've found. As the movie is set to be released in US theaters we remain confident that people will not see this horrible movie.

There was a lot of back-and-forth as to whether or not Lindsay Lohan would take time off from rehab to promote "Chapter 27" at Sundance, but there's no reason for her to be here in the first place. She has a very small role, and no one would have asked her about it anyway.

I saw the movie last night. Lindsay has a small role, she's only in it for about 20 minutes. Jared Leto is in every scene, and he put on a LOT of weight.

Honestly, I don't know who this movie is for. It's not very good. Jared obviously put a lot into his role (he's also listed as Executive Producer), but it's a one-note performance.

The odds were kind of stacked in his favor — portraying Lennon's killer as a monster prevents the film from being emotionally engaging, while humanizing him would have caused a lot of backlash (like humanizing Hitler).

It's depressing, disturbing and uncomfortable to watch. Wants to be like "Taxi Driver," but doesn't even come close. Might be of mild interest to Lennon fans (or not), but no one else.

"We are determined to ensure that the Company is in good financial standing, and we believe this additional time will allow us to finalize our year-end filing and enable Peace Arch to enter 2008 on a firm financial footing. We confirm once again that other than the release of our statements, there is no material information concerning the affairs of the Company that has not been generally disclosed as of the date of this announcement."

Peace Arch originally anticipated filing its annual statements during the week of December 9, 2007. Despite its best efforts, management subsequently determined that further time was required to prepare those filings and for its independent auditors to complete their audit. Based on the work done to date, management's best estimate at this time is that the annual audited financial statements will be filed by February 29, 2008. As a result of not filing its 2007 financial statements, Peace Arch also has not yet filed its financial statements for the first quarter ended November 30, 2007. First quarter results will be filed shortly after the Company files its annual statements.

Since you released the iPhone on June 29, 2007, millions of consumers have been forced to use AT&T for their phone service. It doesn’t matter that the iPhone can work on other networks; you struck a devil’s deal with just AT&T and their monopoly has allowed them to deliver substandard service without fear of an iPhone user defecting to another carrier.

AT&T’s poor service has especially affected the hundreds of thousands of us who are on the GoPhone pre-paid plan on our iPhones.

At least twice in the past three months, AT&T allowed outages of their EDGE service, preventing us from accessing the Web and any iPhone application dependent on Web data. That means no email, no web browsing, no map searches, among other things.

In both situations. the EDGE outage apparently only affected users on the GoPhone pre-paid plan. And we suspect there may be similar incidents in the future.

Most times in America, when a company performs so poorly, the average consumer punishes such behavior by going to a competitor. This is sadly not the case with Apple and AT&T. We are victims of your monopoly.

The iPhone uses GSM technology that should allow it to work on other wireless networks, including overseas. But Apple has configured the iPhone so you’re forced to use it on AT&T. An iPhone purchased in the U.S. will only work on the AT&T network, regardless of what SIM card is placed in it — it cannot be taken to another GSM network such as T-Mobile.

Although it is legal, according to a decision from the U.S. Register of Copyrights, for American consumers to unlock their phones for use on whatever network they would like, Apple has taken away that right by locking the iPhone to AT&T’s network and its substandard service.

And maybe more importantly, AT&T’s poor service is tarnishing Apple’s brand.

We the undersigned call on you to free us from the AT&T monopoly and unlock the iPhone so that we consumers can use it on networks other than AT&T.

PrePay Iphone 1.1.3 day 5, an AT&T customer services nightmare

I thought the incredibly abusive saga of the 1.1.3 iPhone brick saga was just about over. I didn't post any updates and really believed the line of crap that AT&T fed me. But alas, its not only still an issue, but it gets worse. AT&T does not offer customer service (customer care) on Sundays, so now with the problem of being charged per text and for every second I access the intenet or my email still not fixed, no one is available to credit back my prepaid iPhone gophone account. So at this point, if I leave a wifi network or receive (or Send) a text my iphone 1.1.3 will be turned off. They ONLY thing I can do if I want basic cell phone service is to deposit MORE money to my iPhone GoPhone account.
This is without a question the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. It is now 6 days and I still have no solution, other than giving AT&T more of my money. Is this part of AT&T and Apple attempting to force me in to a two year contract that I prefer not to sign. What excuse can there possibly be for not adding ample credit to my account to carry me through the weekend if they knew no one would be available to help me on Sunday.
Although the iPhone is a cool toy, this is an absolute nightmare. Apple and AT&T are going to lose my business, where is the deity, STEVE JOBS to the rescue?? Where's the "award winning" customer service of Apple and AT&T.
Yes, I am just one little guy, writing on one basically unseen blog, but this is the only recourse I have as I continue to get screwed by two corporate giants. Apple you can take your iPhone 1.1.3 and shove it straight up your deal with AT&T.

Please read the previous posts, before the bashing, This has been a truly unbelievable lack of customer service experience.

Day 4 in the 1.1.3 iPhone prepaid AT&T issue

Honestly, I'm at a loss...Entering Day of being charged for SMS Text , Internet, and email service on my iPhone after the 1.1.3 update, although I have prepaid through the 29th for unlimited text and data.
Once again, AT&T have assured me that the fix is less than 24 hours away. They are quick to reimburse my account, but I'm still spending 10 minutes on hold and 10 minutes on the phone with the AT&T technical rep. 3 times a day to maintain a balance on my 1.1.3 updated iPhone.
I might be better off with a brick at this point, it would do more damage when I throw it through the window of either the Apple Store or the AT&T store (kidding Apple Secret Police).

Everytime I leave the office or the house (a wi-fi network) the iPhone rips through $$ like nobodies business, looking for my emails or helping me find a destination with maps.
What more should I say? The iPhone is an awesome toy, but this is just silly.

Let me apologize to the readers, members, and supporters of Boycott Chapter 27. I'm sorry to have stepped away from the normal topic of conversation on this blog, but it's the biggest forum I have for telling the current iPhone saga.
Unfortunately, I am anything but a professional writer, but hopefully this will clear up some of the questions people are having regarding their prepaid iPhone after the 1.1.3 update.

Headed to Day 3:

Apple Store to AT&T Customer Care to AT&T technical services to AT&T Billing to AT&T iPhone specialist to AT&T customer care.

This has now taken the majority of my 2nd day attempting to "get back to my business" in my latest iPhone saga.

This is what I have learned:
It seems, from what I've been told from AT&T, this issue has only happened to iPhone prepay customers in Illinois and possibly Wisconsin. Shame on me for not wanted to be locked in to a 2 year contract. Guess I should have been beholden to AT&T for the next 24 months.

All of the Data and Texting plans on prepaid iPhone accounts in the IL. data center have been deleted. According to my last phone call to an AT&T customer care supervisor, the software engineers are working on a fix to have the plans reinstated by tomorrow morning. They will be running a software update tonight (I HOPE).

I will say all the folks at the AT&T call center have been very nice, but at some point "nice", just doesn't help. As I have explained to the folks at Apple, iPhones are not just fancy iPods, they have become a business critical device. I have lost 2 full days of text messages and have not had the ability to access email or the internet, this directly impacts my livelyhood.

For about 46 of the last 48 hours, I have had no data or text messaging functionality, when they did come back, they wiped out my $50+ balance in a matter of minutes (which was replaced by AT&T, without much of a fight). Problem was, I was unaware that my balance had been "used" and was left unable to make or receive phone calls, on what was at that point nothing more than my very large touch screen cell phone.

Billing wanted me to prepay for a new month starting today, essentially losing the 13 days of unlimited text and data which I had already payed for. Not a good solution.
The technical folks, again nicely, have transfered me to iPhone specialists, customer care, and billing. Billing transfered me to customer care again. Anthony at customer care finally got me a supervisor who explained the issue, saying "by tomorrow morning you will be up and running".

As I type, I am continuously getting hit with $.01 charges, what am I paying a penny for??

Hope this helped answer some of your questions, I am interested to know if this is affecting people outside of Illinois. Please Post a comment of this is the case or if you have any additional info.

And please refer to my last posting, before you call me an Apple basher, as I own a few shares of both Apple and AT&T stock.

DAY 1...Keep Cheering for Steve

MacWorld applaudes Steve Jobs and I'm out of business.

Like most big Apple fans, I couldn't wait to update my iPhone to 1.1.3, as soon as it was announced I went to run the updates and sync with iTunes.

The new Google maps was gonna make life so much better, as the government could find me even easier if they wanted too. Unfortunately, while Steve Jobs was getting applause I was being put out of business.

I've updated hundreds of Apple products as an ex-employee of Apple (yes, I left on good terms, yes, I love the company and yes, I still own the Stock). I can live without my iPod and without mobile web, but my phone is the lifeline of my business. I suppose I need to carry a Nokia or Motorola for when I really need to make a call. iTunes seems to have been down or my iPhone is finished. I never hacked or unlocked the iPhone and I always make my donations by purchasing music from the iTunes store.

But while Steve Jobs got his applause I missed numerous important business and personal phone calls. Apple, please be sure your updates are correct before you mess with my livelyhood and increase the available bandwith on iTunes. You guys killed me today!!

Be sure to wait before you update to 1.1.3, either until an announcement is made or iTunes is brought back online

Day 2 no Texting or Internet outside of Wi-Fi

It is now Wed. Jan. 16th 2008, one full day after MacWorld, the world is still Applauding Steve Jobs and my iPhone is still not working.

It has been confirmed from AT&T technical service that due to issues with their system and the 1.1.3 iPhone update that all (At least Chicago) iPhone accounts had the Text Messageing and Edge Internet service deleted from users accounts. There is still no ETA on when our iPhones will return to full-service rather than being...Big Cell Phones.

The rep at AT&T of course blamed the 1.1.3 update and the friendly, happy Apple Store folks fall back on...it's an AT&T issue. Quite frankly, I no longer care. This is hour 28 of no Texting, email or internet for iPhone users in at the very least the ChicaoLand Area.

Steve, stop playing to the crowd and get this stuff straight. This is not the iPod busines, texting and mobile email are mission critical for business today.

Please let me know if anyone is able to nail down an ETA on the return of the services we are paying for.

We have spoken about the greedy individuals, willing to put their morals aside and purchase stock in Peace Arch Entertainment. Hoping like management to profit from Chapter 27, basically making money off of the murder of John Lennon. I have also stated that I believe these individual stock holders are worse in many ways than John Flock, Linsay Lohan, and Jared Leto. This is an update from the analyst from ThinkIntrinsic, one of the very few Wall Street firms that follow Peace Arch Entertainment, the company that has produced Chapter 27. This is a copy of the email I received, including the links to his latest coverage on a stock that he had built up in the last few years. Seems like the curse of Chapter 27 will now hit the individuals looking to profit, right where it hurts...in their wallets.

But for the most part the future of the company is not clear so I have avoided speculation and will wait until the earnings release and more information before forming an opinion.

Since the last mention about PAE on this site (we have talked about it some more on the blog) PAE's CEO has left the company. The Chairman, Jeff Sagansky, is interim CEO and PAE is looking to acquire ContentFilm, a UK-based film company with a large library and distribution business. PAE's vision has changed and we think this acquisition is more like a merger, given that ContentFilm is larger than PAE.

We also think that Sagansky has no reason to stay on as CEO and that a CFL executive will likely take that position. I would also like to note that Sagansky has sold one of his companies to CFL in the past and has a large ownership stake. It is not clear whether PAE wanted to merge with CFL all along but Howsam (former CEO and regarded by most as the founder) did not want to.

From here, I have not written PAE off but have sold my shares pending a valuation analysis of CFL. I am also unclear on the future direction of the company because CFL is larger than PAE so I must familiarize myself with CFL and see how it may affect the combined company's strategy going forward. For instance, CFL has intentionally avoided the production business, but PAE recently expanded its production operations with an acquisition in mid-2007.

Since the CEO was fired/quit, I’ve unloaded all of my shares. When the integrity of a founding CEO is questioned, holding onto the stock cannot be justified unless the new management has proven that they can hold their own and that their morals have not been influenced by their former-CEO. Also, it is unclear to what extent Howsam’s presence was fundamental to the execution of deals. We also don’t know if the acting-CEO will remain or if the Board is looking for somebody else.

We are quickly approaching the end of our battle. Chapter 27 has bombed and quickly disappeared from theaters throughout the world. Even with Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan, it will no doubt fail in the United States as well. Peace Arch Entertainment appears to be headed towards shareholder lawsuits, continuing to delay earnings filings. There CEO has been fired after being arrested for fraud. Chapter 27 has cursed the production company and all those involved .
So our question.... Where do we go with the site...Which has built a rather large and very loyal following. As we enter 2008, we near the release of Chapter 27. A film that does not focus on John Lennon's life, but rather the events in a killers life leading up to his assassination. Keep in mind, following the murderers arrest, when asked why he killed The Beatles great, he replied "Now I'll Live Forever, I have stolen John Lennons fame". It is this very statement that makes Chapter 27, Peace Arch Entertainments film so very,very wrong. Hiring Lindsay Lohan and Jared Leto to profit from Johns death and in the process giving a killer the very gift of fame that he desired when he killed John.
Murder for Fame is a problem that will continue for as long as publishers of Movies, Books, and Magazines continue to offer the very Fame that killers of this type desire.

Chapter 27 (Jared Leto and Lindsay Lohan) was released in Japan on the day of John Lennons murder (while Yoko Ono was dedicating a memorial to her late husband). 27 years to the day that a peaceful man and musical genius was taken from us.
We are excited to say that the movie is already disappearing from Japanese theaters, Chapter 27 may not make it through a single weekend. Peace Arch Entertainment has terribly misjudged the people of Japan. A population of huge Beatles fans has fought back, by avoiding Chapter 27.

Last Saturday, it was 27 years since ex-Beatle John Lennon was shot and killed by a deranged scumbag.

Two movies about the life and death of this peace-loving pop icon/music genius will soon be out here. So, which sounds more appealing: the upbeat, informative, rah-rah one? Or the dreary, uninformative, I'd-chew-my-leg-off-to-get-out-of-here one? I guess it depends on your mood.

・"The U.S. vs. John Lennon" (called "Peace Bed--America vs. John Lennon" in Japan) has a litigious title and made its cable debut on music channel VH1. But fear not: This is not some ludicrous hybrid of Court TV hype and "Behind the Music" melodrama. It is instead good, old-school storytelling: a 99-minute film rich in material that tells a relevant yarn about interesting people, including colorful former newsmakers who are as outspoken as ever. (Wow. Talk about aging boomers! Except Angela Davis, the communist organizer/ex-FBI-list fugitive acquitted in a sensationalist murder trial in the early 1970s--she still looks hip.) The film does well to venture beyond the courtroom; it gathers up the threads of the lawsuit story throughout Lennon's life and then weaves them together into a big zeitgeist tapestry.

The background in a nutshell: By the late 1960s, Lennon was lending his star power to support antiwar, anti-establishment groups. U.S. President Richard Nixon was up for re-election in 1972, and the voting age had just dropped to 18. The administration was paranoid that Lennon's activism would spur young people to vote Nixon out. U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond proposed nullifying Lennon's influence by revoking his visa and kicking him out of the country. The FBI, functioning as political police, gathered intelligence on Lennon for the case. He refused to go quietly.

The story is told by those involved, many of them famous/notorious: former FBI agents including convicted Watergate co-conspirator G. Gordon Liddy (repeating his crack about using a hippie's candle to light his cigar); Bobby Seale, co-founder of the Black Panthers; even poet-activist John Sinclair, who got up to 10 years for giving two joints to an undercover cop. (Sinclair has funny things to say about the cross purposes of smoking marijuana while trying to get it legalized.)

Besides interviews, the story is also told in archive footage of Lennon and others doing talk shows, concerts, protests and so on.

Much of this was before my time, so I can't speak for how rare the footage is, but I will say that hindsight makes for some smug watching. Besides the in-bed protests (with Tommy Smothers!), other choice snippets include a snooty editor from The New York Times telling Lennon he was "ridiculous" and that his song "All You Need Is Love" was a joke.

The footage of Lennon and Yoko Ono is surprising, too. Ono, long blamed and reviled by many for the breakup of the Beatles, has often been painted with a witchy brush in documentaries about the Fab Four. But here, there's no pretense that she's evil. The portrait is kind, if jumbled: Lennon and Ono come across variously as astute rebels, wacky artists, naive activists, scared foreigners. The constant is that Lennon seems truly in love with Ono, even geekily so.

Obviously, in contrasting the vehement antiwar protest movement of the Vietnam era ("Power to the people!") with today's lackluster campaigns, the film has an agenda--that people today should be doing more than blogging to protest the war in Iraq. But you can also watch this film in a specific historic sense to see this legal episode in Lennon's life unfold. Overall, this is an engrossing film, one I wouldn't mind rewatching.

・So, why did MDC shoot Lennon? Because MDC was nuts. OK, yes, but what exactly was it that made him want to kill the ex-Beatle with the cool granny glasses?

"Chapter 27" apparently doesn't know, or isn't telling. Despite our cinematically spending a meandering three days (Dec. 6-8, 1980) with MDC until the murder in New York, all we get out of the encounter is a big moue of distaste at the whole proceedings. MDC (Jared Leto) does a lot of mumbling about phonies and how much he thinks he's like Holden Caulfield of J.D. Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye." When he's not repeating to himself that he needs to kill Lennon, he's spewing his anti-homosexual diatribes and other garbage.

Even troubled starlet Lindsay Lohan, who makes brief, unremarkable appearances as another fan, doesn't buoy things along. (A bit of trivia: Lennon is played by Mark Lindsay Chapman (ridiculous stunt hiring him to play Lennon) --apparently not a close relation. Also, the title refers to a continuation of "A Catcher in the Rye.")

To be sure, this is an atmospheric bit of independent filmmaking by first-time director-writer J.P. Schaefer. Visually, it seems to be fairly in tune with ugly 1980s fashion in New York, with its embrace of unflattering tinted glasses and patterned sweaters. Besides, you can almost feel the bitter winter wind whipping through Central Park to the Dakota building, where Lennon and Ono lived.

And surely the physical repulsiveness of the MDC specimen comes through, though this seems to be a bit of grandstanding by the actor, who porked up for the role. More often than is necessary, Leto/MDC's sloppy naked paunch appears in profile, drooping over his tightie whities.

MDC is an unpleasant companion for 85 minutes, more so since we learn little in that time. Dispiriting, drab and uninsightful, "Chapter 27" is one to skip.
